Our Story
There were numerous events in 2009, one of which was the founding of a little known company called Brainstorm Force (that’s us!). And since then we’ve built a range of WordPress products that power over 2 million websites.
We’re the people behind the Astra Theme, Schema Pro, Ultimate Addons, Convert Pro, Cart Flows and more. Our focus is always to stay committed to innovations and usability, while making our products more sustainable and reliable.
In Sanskrit, Hindi, and Marathi “Astra” means a weapon. In Greek – Astra means a star. Both justify the meaning of what we believe Astra is.
Astra is a result of hundreds of hours spent finding the pain points with current solutions, and then researching what users really want.
Astra is a combination of optimized code, ease of use, and is the complete package. A theme without flaws, a theme built for speed, built for business, built for your website. Regardless of your business type Astra is truly the best alternative theme to any other on the market.
Why Did We Build Astra?
It’s no doubt a valid question, and it’s true there are already thousands of WordPress themes on the market. From free solutions to paid solutions and everything in-between.
But you have to remember something… being the first doesn’t matter. Ok, now you’re thinking of course it does! Look at Google.
In fact, Google was years late to the search engine party with MSN, AOL, Yahoo! and others launching first. Just as Facebook was not the first social network!
To be the best, you don’t have to be the first. But really, why did we build Astra?
Well for the first 5 years at Brainstorm Force we were building websites for businesses and users like you. We found it difficult to find reliable themes that we could use as a good base and ones that didn’t regularly break on updating.
In the end we knew we could do better, we became sick of the back-and-forth process of testing updates on staging and them breaking as the developer hadn’t tested their release.
There were also the lack of customization options, performance issues and general lack of quality themes we could use.
Something no doubt you’ve come across too.
So we set to work on building Astra to solve our own problem and as it turns out just a couple of years later and with over 1,200 new websites a day using Astra and 1,653,898+ active installs it also solves your problems too. 🙂
It didn’t happen overnight though, something often attributed to popular software particularly. Instead it took months of research, client feedback, development time, blood, sweat and tears to bring Astra to life.
Then in 2017 Astra was born. And what came next was nothing short of incredible.
Success! Success beyond our wildest dreams. We were blown away with the early adoption and success of Astra from the WordPress community.
As we had hoped for – our wonderful team created a WordPress Theme that was not only lightening-fast (faster), but also made websites lighter.

Giving Back to the Community
We believe in giving back to the community we belong to. Our developers continue contributing to WordPress core and build many useful plugins that are available for free on the WordPress repository. This is our way of thanking the WordPress community!
Apart from this we also serve 100 lunch meals daily to school children. This helps eliminate classroom hunger by implementing Mid-Day Meals countering malnutrition and supporting the right to education for socio-economically disadvantaged children. Our contribution to the society we live in!
